The Kwela Initiative, a groundbreaking project aimed at uniting artists, addressing industry challenges, and promoting social change, launched Monday January, 27th at the Art Gallery in the heart of the city kicked off to a great start. This innovative program will run throughout the week, from 09:00 to 13:00 hours, bringing together artists, producers, managers, event coordinators, photographers, videographers, and other industry professionals.

Asaph Afrika took the reins as the master of ceremonies for the session, which drew in a diverse crowd of artists, industry reps, and media personalities. Notable attendees included Raisedon Baya, representatives from SkyzMetro and The Chronicle, as well as various bloggers and journalists.

The day’s discussions centered around pressing topics, such as monetizing music, the 3Cs and 4Ms of music, and the importance of collaboration and networking. A highlight of the session was the free cypher sessions, where beats were dropped and artists were encouraged to showcase their skills.

A thought-provoking group discussion between the hip-hop community and industry stakeholders raised crucial points about the perception of hip-hop, the lack of recognition for artists, and the need for collaboration and unity within the industry. Other topics included unprofessionalism in the studio and community, the importance of proper etiquette and communication, and ways to integrate hip-hop into the broader community.

Throughout the week, the Kwela Initiative will cover various aspects of the music industry, including studio etiquette, performance techniques, and producer relationships. The initiative aims to bring together artists, producers, managers, and other industry professionals to share skills, ideas, and experiences.

Notable artists in attendance included Muse, Fish F, Mcswag, Curtis, De Rovar, Noluntu, J Rockie, Doub, King Bill, POY, Indigo Saint and more.

The Kwela Initiative is a beacon of hope for the music industry, providing a platform for artists to unite, empower, and grow. As the initiative continues throughout the week, we can expect more insightful discussions, meaningful connections, and innovative solutions to emerge.

Stay tuned for updates on the Kwela Initiative and its impact on the music industry!
